Winemaking philosophy

At Chance Encounter Wines, our vision is to create wines we love to drink.   Wines made of the best quality fruit in any given vintage, no matter the variety of grape or region of origin.  Wines that are a delight to drink in their early stages and even better as they develop over time.

To bring this vision to life, we needed to partner with a winemaker who embodies this ethos.

A name of pedigree in the wine sphere, Jason Barrette is the winemaker artiste who crafted our 2018 Barossa Shiraz and Cabernet and 2020 McLaren Vale Shiraz and Cabernet.  Having honed his craft at Penfolds, alongside Chief Winemaker Peter Gago, Jason has been involved in the making of premium wines such as Magill Estate and the iconic Grange.

With sojourns to complete harvests in European provinces and North America over the past decade, Jason brings a finesse to winemaking that is based on showcasing the fruit and region where the grapes are grown.

Pair Jason's passion for red wine production with Chance Encounter Wines' dedication to high quality, delicious drops, and it's a match made in heaven.

And the result of this match made in heaven?  Delicious wines ready to drink now or savour over the next 10-15 years for different experiences on the palate that will maintain structure and reward over time.
